Problem

Backups of volume D fail with the error listed below when using Backup Exec System Recovery (BESR) 2010.

Backups of other volumes (i.e. C) are successful.

Error

High Priority Error: Error EC8F17B7: Cannot create recovery points for job: Drive Backup of Store (D:\).
Error EC8F03EA: Cannot create a virtual volume image of the selected drive.
Error EBAB03E9: Internal Application Error: Memory Access Violation c0000005:
Application tried to read memory at 00000000. 0xEBAB03E9 (Backup Exec System

Environment

Windows 2008 R2

Solution

Currently there is no workaround to this issue.

Problem

Redirected restores of individual documents from SharePoint GRT (Granular Restore Technology) backups are successful with zero bytes restored.

The same documents can be successfully restored when doing a restore back to the original location. The entire contents of the document is restored in this scenario.

Environment

SharePoint 2007

Workaround:

Perform restore back to original location on SharePoint server.

Trying to launch the “Install Options and Licenses on this Backup Exec Server” wizard takes a long time to open in Backup Exec 2012

Hardware encryption does not work when backing up Oracle Database with Backup Exec 2012

If 'Hardware' is chosen as 'Encryption Type' for Oracle database backups, the backup data is not encrypted. The 'Data Encryption' field on the properties page of the backup set shows 'No'.

Remote Agent for Macintosh (RAMS) is crashing at random intervals during backups. The agent crash is inconsistent (i.e. can occur after 200MB or after 7TB of data has been backed up).

Error

V-79-57344-65297 - The Linux or Unix resource is not responding. Backup set canceled.

Final error: 0xe000ff11 - A communications failure has occurred with a Linux or Unix resource.
Final error category: Resource Errors

Environment

Mac OSX 10.6.4 - 10.6.8

Solution

At the time of writing, there is no workaround available.

Unable to restore individual files from GRT enabled backup of VMware guest machine if it is duplicated to tape with hardware encryption

Unable to restore individual files and folders from a Granular Recovery Technology (GRT) enabled backup of a VMware guest machine if the backup set is duplicated to tape with hardware encryption. The 'Encryption Key Not Found' error window pops up when selecting the encrypted backup set in the Restore Wizard.

Problem

When doing a 'By drive' backup in Symantec System Recovery Management Solution (SSR-MS), the entries for the System Reserved partition (0-1) on Windows 7 and Windows 2008 R2 are not correctly grouped together as the other volumes are. The screenshot below is an example of this.

Solution

The only workaround currently available is to manually select each entry for the System Reserved partition (0-1) when doing a 'By drive' backup in SSR-MS.

This occurs when duplicating to tape or disk.

If Verify is turned off, the duplicate backup completes successfully.

Problem
In Backup Exec 2012 enumerating Enterprise Vault (EV) agent backup selection will hang on EV site if Enterprise Vault has a Vault Store Group (VSG) named VaultStoreGroups
 
Cause
Enterprise vault has a Vault Store Group named VaultStoreGroups.
 
 
Workaround:
 
Rename the Vault Store Group to anything other than VaultStoreGroups. Vault Store Group can be renamed from the properties of the Vault Store Group.
Restart Backup Exec Remote Agent Service on EV server after renaming the Vault Store Group.

Symantec System Recovery Physical to virtual (P2V) conversion of Windows 2003 Standard Sp2 x86 to a Hyper-V results in guests failing to detect NIC and start integration services.

Problem

When attempting to convert a system image file using the Symantec System Recovery Physical to virtual (P2V) conversion utility, systems running Microsoft® Windows Server® 2008 Standard Version 6.0.6002 Service Pack 2 32-bit to a Hyper-V guest system results in a guest system that fails to detect its network card, integration services fail to start, and the Hyper-v Manager does not report the guest's heartbeat. This does not appear to occur using other 3rd party converting utilities for this system as well as using the Symantec System Recovery Physical to virtual (P2V) conversion utility on images created from different Windows operating systems.

 
Error

On some virtual guests, upon initial boot, the following error had occurred:

"virtual adapter not found"

  • Microsoft® Windows Server® 2008 Standard Version 6.0.6002 Service Pack 2 32-bit
  • Hyper-V host running on a Microsoft® Windows Server® 2008 R2 Sp1 system
  • Backup Exec System Recovery 2010 -or- Symantec System Recovery 2011

Solution

(Workaround) - Manually enable the, 'Detect Hal,' check box within the System Configuration utility:

  1. Go to START | RUN.
  2. Type MSCONFIG and press enter.
  3. Click on the BOOT tab and press enter.
  4. Click the ADVANCE OPTIONS button.
  5. Check the DETECT HAL check box.
  6. Click the Apply button.
  7. Click the OK button
  8. Click the Restart Now button
